Welcome to Feet First

Welcome to Feet First

Tēnā koutou

Feet First 2010 encourages primary school students to walk to school with a caregiver, friend, or organised walking group at least once a week, every week, during term time.

Feet First also provides curriculum content for teachers to talk about walking in relation to safety, exploring, creativity, and saving the planet.

There are another 40 $500 sports vouchers up for grabs this year - to be given to 10 lucky schools each term. To enter your school and go in the draw, register for Feet First and then enter eight or more weeks of walking data per term. All schools who are currently registered will have their registration automatically carried forward for 2010.

The Feet First website has hundreds of interesting stories and pictures from schools who encourage safe walking. There are also many stories written by students for the Picture Book competition. The winning book Lucky Pancake, is about a very interesting cat who walks to school. It was written by Year 2 students at Otonga School.

You can read about the great ideas that other schools have had to promote walking and register for Feet First 2010. Once registered you can order classroom resources such as posters, wall charts and postcards in both English and Māori, and enter the competitions.
