A community development programme ‘Kids on Feet’ was trialled a few years ago at Greerton Village School and was so successful a decision was made to give other schools the opportunity.
To offer it to all schools it had to become flexible to meet the needs of the different school communities. Parents and caregivers are continually involved in any developments of Tauranga City’s Kids on Feet.
This quote from a parent highlights one of the many successes of the Kids on Feet walking school buses: “It’s the group environment , the children really work as a family unit – it gives children a true sense of belonging. Where there normally isn’t friendship there are friendships now just because of the buses.” Parent Coordinator, Kids on Feet.
