Prizes

Prizes

There are a range of prizes available to schools registered for Feet First. The prizes are designed to encourage use of this website and the curriculum materials.

Main prize – Create your own Picture Book

In Term 4 one winning school will get the chance to publish their own picture book on active travel while working alongside a professional author/editor and illustrator.

The winning school’s book will have a professional launch and be distributed to every school library in New Zealand.

This prize is open to all registered schools, not just those who collect walking numbers. It will be awarded by a panel of judges based on samples of stories and pictures submitted by schools. More details will follow in Term 2.

Example Picture Book

A picture book by children has been successfully developed by Stanley Bay School in Devonport. Over 60 children, from Rooms 10 and 11 at Stanley Bay School, Devonport created a book full of wonderful fun-filled stories and poems - The Supertastic, Marvelistic Storiez & Poemz 4 Kidz by Kidz.

Read more at the Stanley Bay School website.

Sports Vouchers

Schools that collect and enter data on the number of students who walk will be entered into a prize draw each term. There are 10 x $500 sports vouchers (Sports Distributors NZ Ltd) to be given away each term.

Schools don't have to collect the data for each week of the term to be considered. However they must have collected it for at least five weeks in Term 1 to be entered into that term's draw. For Terms 2 to 4 they must have collected data for at least eight weeks a term to be considered for each term's draw. Walking data can be entered after each week or at any time throughout the term but must be submitted by the end of term date for the school to be considered for that term's draw.

The Golden Boot

Each school that registers will automatically be sent a ‘Golden Boot’ trophy. Schools can then award it each week/month/term to winning students or classes for their walking efforts.

Book Vouchers (Term 1 only)

All schools registered in Term 1 could run a competition on ‘How we used to walk to school’ and were sent a $25 Book Voucher in Term 1 to give to their winning student. This competition could be approached in any way. Students could interview adults, collect stories written by adults, make a movie about what it used to be like etc. Some schools may choose to develop some of these walking stories and submit them into the NZTA Picture Book Challenge in Term 4.
