Collect and read different examples of argument writing in every day life: letters to the editor, advertising brochures, junk mail and other sources.
Identify features in common to the exemplars and examples. For example, many arguments start with a clear statement of position, which is followed by three or more reasons in support of the position; each reason is then elaborated and supported with facts, evidence, examples, and the writing finishes with a concluding statement that redefines the original position.
