Highly Commended

The following five school entries were high-commended in the competition. You can read the judges comments below and click on the links to view their creative stories.

Thorndon School Enviro Group - Mr Grey's New Way

Mr Grey’s New Way had adventurous rhymes and was told in glorious collage. The illustrations were sophisticated which reflected the time that has obviously gone into crafting them. It shows that these students are talented artists!

Nelson Central School (Room 9) - Kowhai's Travel Decision

The children in Kowhai's class had some awesome ways to get to school. Room 9 found a really fun way to challenge us to think differently. The book cleverly integrated all the class members into the story with bright and simple, but effective, illustrations.

Gate Pa School (Room 9, Year 3) - Alien Goes to School

Room 5 took a novel approach to the story, using a visitor from outer space, which was very funny. It was also a great new addition to inter-planetary understanding. Well done, Room 5.

Mornington School (Room 6, Years 3 and 4) - The Imagining Game

The character Ben's imagination runs away with him in this sophisticated and imaginative story about walking to school, which was very well written. There was a good use of collage for the fun illustrations.

Te Puru School (Pohutukawa Room Years 3 and 4) - Who Made the Footprints?

The judges said this delightful and mysterious story showed active ways to travel as Room Pohutukawa solved the mystery of who left the footprints. The illustrations took up the whole page and were very colourful, bright and strong. Great work.
