Children love being responsible citizens. At Sherwood Primary on Aucklands North Shore they are not only showing they care for their environment by using a Walking School Bus but one day a week they are also keeping their patch clean and green by picking up any rubbish they find on their journey.
The initiative started after bi-annual inorganic rubbish collection where alot of small rubbish was left behind or blown onto the neighbouring reserve. What started as a one off clean up was such a hit with the walkers the WSB co-ordinator made it a weekly event. As you can see the kids really enjoy the challenge of taking practical steps to do their bit for their own local environment.
