How I used to walk to school

How I used to walk to school

Principal Dene Langley from Arataki School was interviewed by the student House Leaders.

Mr Langley shared that he went to Kawerau North School and then went on to College. Mr Langley used to walk and bike to school. School was a kilometre away from home.

He used to enjoy walking to school with his friends and they would often look for apples and oranges that ripened on neighbour’s trees.

Mr Langley said: “In those days when we biked to school cycle helmets were not around and my bike didn’t have brakes - so I had to be extremely careful cycling to school. Once at a T-intersection I remember I banged into a car and my bike broke. From then on I had to walk to school. I had a lot of mates and I would always meet them on the way to school.”
