Three students from Tahatai Coast School interviewed Constable Sarah MacKenzie on how she used to travel to school. She shared her journey with Blair MacKenzie, Harry Coulson and Reece MacKenzie.
Constable Sarah MacKenzie used to live on Waiheke Island and this is what she remembers.
“ I used to attend a school on Waiheke Island. Our school had 15 classes and it started in the primers and went up to Year 13. I used to walk through empty sections, down steps, along paths up a hill and down a walkway onto the beach and through some bush onto the school field. Everyday this is how I would get to and from school until I reached secondary school age, then I biked.
A memory I recall was walking home one day playing with chewing gum, pulling it out of my mouth and somehow I got the chewing gum stuck in my long hair. It was a tangled mess. My Mum was so cross with me and it was so tangled Mum had to cut a chunk out of my hair to get rid of it.
