Cindi the Kids on Feet Coordinator at Omanu School works tirelessly to involve the parents and caregivers at Omanu School. Cindi shared with Travel Safe staff that she was making badge tags as the students gained 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200+ walks to and from school. At 100 the students get a skateboard keyring, then tags in between until 200 whereby they get a gumboot keyring. Students share the comeraderie with others and gain so much by walking, cycling, scootering to and from Omanu school. The culture of active transport is humming all year with Kids on Feet, Kids Can Ride and Feet First and the valuable time that Cindi puts into encouraging others to walk. Cindi often attends the meetings with the Feet First senior student ambassadors so students, teachers and parents are working together to achieve the schools successful outcomes in 2009.
After evaluation and input from the other school coordinators her idea now covers Kids on Feet across Tauranga and is even implemented into some school travel plan initiatives. Thames has implemented it as part of their kids on Feet programme. The students collect these with pride and attach them to their bags. Great ideas with passion come from communities! Well Done Cindi!
