Principal Phil Friar, Deputy Principal Cathy Burgess, Constable Sarah Mac Kenzie, Ruben the road safety bear, Porangi from Puppet Vision and parent coordinators from the walking school bus all took part. Students were encouraged to join the walking school buses that leave Simpson Road and McCallum Street every morning and leave school every afternoon.
The marshalls from the school’s 'i save the world' programme have been gaining skills in collecting and inputting the data for 'Walking Wednesdays'. Kat Hansen a parent volunteer organises the marshalls and assists them to meet with Tauranga City Council representatives weekly.
The 'i save the world' marshalls share their thoughts about their responsible role:
Rachel: “I like working in the shack and getting the school bus every day.”
Shae: “I like to go around the classes and collecting those walking, cycling and busing and I’m looking forward to presenting the trophy.”
Rebecca: “I love working in the shack and walking on the walking school bus.”
Komaldeep: “I love walking from McCallum St and everything about my role.”
Jessica: “I like walking on the bus in the sun on cold mornings.”
Our parent volunteer coordinator Kat shares: “ When I was away in Paihia I went on the Feet first website to see that our senior marshalls had input the data without me being there. I was impressed and proud of them being so responsible.”
