Woodlands School make a video

Woodlands School make a video

Woodlands School is a semi rural school about 6kms from Opotiki in the Bay of Plenty.

At Woodlands School we walk to school on Wednesday. We think walking is great, it’s good for you and we get a chance to catch up with our mates and talk about all sorts of stuff.

Every Wednesday about three quarters of the students walk to school. But on any other day only a handful of children walk to school. The reason for this is that it is not safe to walk.

WHY –No Footpath

With our Principal, Mr Hayward, we decided to make a video to show how dangerous it is for us and try to persuade our local council to do something to make it safe.

About the Movie

We took pictures and videos of the kids from our school walking up the road. We showed how fast the cars travel (80km zone) and that we have milk tankers and big trucks that pass us.

We tried to show that we have to walk on the road because there is no footpath and the grass on the verge is long and overgrown – this also leads to wet feet.

We combined them to make a movie.  In the movie it shows that it is not only the students that are in danger it’s the motorists as well.

The drivers give us plenty of space but sometimes they have to go onto the other side of the road. A couple of corners are hard to see around and we worry that there may be an accident.
