Bradford School Walk on Wednesdays

Bradford School Walk on Wednesdays

In term 4 2008 Bradford School rung Sport Otago asking for some help to get active transport happening within their School community. They had tried the Walking school Bus concept in the past but for various reasons it was not sustainable. They were keen to try running a WOW (Walk once a week &/or Walk on Wednesdays).

One of the parents painted a tree trunk in the school foyer and made different coloured leaves for each class. Every child that walked on Wednesday's stuck one of their leaves on the tree. At the end of the year they counted all the leaves and the class with the most leaves won a framed certificate to mount on their wall.

This proved to be a fun way to promote active transport for the children and spread positive active transport messages into the families of the Bradford community.
