Stewart Island children are so lucky. Not only is Stewart Island a safe place for children walk to school but they also have a stunning background for their morning stroll. Many of our students walk through native bush tracks and along our beautiful coastline to get to Halfmoon Bay School each morning.
These are some of the comments from our regular walk to schoolers:
“I like to see nice and pretty stuff like flowers and trees and I like to chase the seagulls when I’m walking.” Kyla age 5
“I like to keep fit and there’s lots of beautiful nature to see.” Manoj age 9
“I like taking shortcuts through the bush.” George age 5
“It’s good to get fresh air and walking to school in the morning wakes you up.” Henry age 9
“It’s healthy and fun and sometimes we’re allowed to ride our bikes.” Sophie age 7
