Zebras were found walking across various Tasman and Nelson pedestrian
school crossings during the start of the recent new school term.
The zebras were used during the first two weeks of the term and visited schools in Nelson and as far afield
as Murchison. Some schools were planning on running a similar activity on other days and other schools used
the zebra ideas in further road safety education training. The zebras were a great visible reminder to motorists to slow down and pay attention as they approached these crossings and to be prepared to stop if necessary.
Students and families were also reminded of the importance of using these crossings and how they should
be used. There were a number of new road patrols so it was also another great training opportunity as the
Police Education Officers were also in attendance. New school students were also reminded on the correct way to use the crossings and listen to the road patrols instructions.
