Ruben the Road Safety Bear joined Cambridge Primary School's walking school bus last Wednesday.
Ruben made the journey with the group of 10 Cambridge Primary School who walk up to two kilometres to school on the walking school bus each day.
Walking bus co-ordinator and “driver” Jo Stanton says the walking bus initiative started last year and more students have joined since. Jo is helped by four other “drivers” and says the kids who take part really enjoy themselves.
"Not only is there the exercise and environmental benefits to the walking school bus but we also help the children learn about nature on their way to school.''
Principal Mike Pettit says he is delighted to have a walking school bus operating. "It is great for reinforcing the health and safety message and all the children definitely have fun.''
