Greytown School have created a Walking Map to help encourage students to walk safer routes to school. The map shows hazardous intersections to avoid; where there are footpaths and pedestrian crossings and show parents and students the safer routes and crossing points to use.
Students from the Envirogroup spent the afternoon walking some of the key routes with parents, Greater Wellington School Travel Plan Coordinator, Rebecca Jamieson and Ruth Locker from the Wairarapa Road Safety Council. They checked the draft map to make sure all the routes were correct.
The school hope to launch the map with a “Walk Your Kid to School” day where parents will be encouraged to use the map and walk their chosen route with their child. They will be rewarded with morning tea on arrival!
