Due to a group of dedicated and concerned parents this Walking School Bus has proven to epitomise what the Walking School Bus is all about: communities supporting active transport to school.
In collaboration with Sport Otago, the Police Education Officer, the DCC and RoadSense, the parents worked out two routes to school and organised a roster that suits the community. They overcame what seemed initially like a difficult area to set up walking routes due to a busy highway and logging trucks in the vicinity. They have proven that walking can be a safe activity when a community works together to promote the key messages of active transport.
At the launch of the Walking School Bus the children and parents taking part were treated to hot Milo and spot prizes. The school was pleased to see children arriving invigorated and chirpy after a good, brisk walk.
